IPL 2024 Auction: Full coverage
They had a season to forget last time around after they finished at the bottom of the table. The Orange Army won only four out of 14 matches and looked out of sorts throughout. The fact that Harry Brook failed to live up to expectations was a big concern for them.
TOP TARGETS
The Sunrisers released six players before the auction, including Harry Brook, for whom they shelled out INR 13.25 crore last time around. Aiden Markram, Glenn Phillips, Fazalhaq Farooqi and Marco Jansen remain amongst their top players.
They also released Adil Rashid, Akeal Hosein, Kartik Tyagi, Samarth Vyas and Vivrant Sharma before the auction. Mayank Agarwal, Umran Malik, Rahul Tripathi and Bhuvneshwar Kumar remain as their key players of the Indian contingent.
Wanindu Hasaranga
Wanindu Hasaranga was a part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for a couple of franchises before being released by the Faf du Plessis-led team. After releasing Akeal Hosein and Adil Rashid, the Sunrisers did not have a quality spinner in their ranks. With Hasaranga, not only will the Orange Army get an excellent bowler, but also a powerful striker of the ball.
Johnson Charles
Johnson Charles was roped in by the Knight Riders, but was released ahead of the upcoming season. Last year, he broke Chris Gayle’s record for the fastest T20I hundred by a West Indies batter. After releasing Harry Brook, the Sunrisers have freed up a lot of their purse. Charles may not set the auction on fire and here lies the chance for SRH to get a decent batter at a low price.
Siddarth Kaul
Siddarth Kaul has played for the Sunrisers before and hence, the environment there would not be alien to him. After being released by RCB, Kaul is in the auction at a base price of INR 50 lakhs. The pacer has been in excellent form, having picked up 19 wickets from six innings in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2023.
